History of the Bank
Horse-drawn buggies and handwritten bookkeeping have given way to computers and the Internet, but the fundamental storyline in the 119-year history of Marion National Bank has remained unchanged: Do whatever it takes to accommodate the needs of customers for the sake of a stronger community.
Marion National Bank was chartered in September of 1905 at the corner of Third and Main streets – where it has been a physical and financial fixture in Marion’s downtown business district. The bank has withstood the test of time and challenging historical events, including the Great Depression, World War II and Marion’s landmark flood in 1951. Through both good and challenging times, the bank has continued to grow and serve the Marion Community. By the late 1970’s, it became apparent that its landmark building was no longer adequate and plans were made to build a new facility at the original location. Operations were temporarily moved one block to the east while construction took place and the new building resumed operations in April of 1980 at the corner of Third and Main streets as it had for the previous 75 years.
